It's not a requirement for salvation, but it is a step of obedience and a powerful public testimony of your faith in Jesus Christ. When you go under the water, it symbolizes being buried with Christ. When you come up, it represents rising to new life.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Wear dark-colored clothing that you don't mind getting wet. We'll provide a towel and a private area for you to change. Bring a change of clothes for after.
